Basic Fire Fighting

The Basic Fire Fighting Course is also recommended to companies. As a one day course it is accredited by the Ministry of Labour. The outcome serves to recognise and act immediately during a fire emergency and evacuation. Candidates will complete a practical skill on how to handle a Fire Extinguisher. Candidates who complete the course receive a certificate for 2 years.

The Basic Fire Fighting Course is designed to inform and educate the public regarding fire components, its extinguishment and the evacuation of a building. The course is presented towards the objectives to achieve a theoretical background and practical application in the field with no practical or written assessment.


Our Basic Fire Fighting Course covers the following topics:
  • What is Combustion
  • Causes of Fire
  • The Fire Tetrahedron
  • Ways of heat transmission
  • Fire spread through position
  • Fire development (Introduction of the 5 stages)
  • Products of combustion
  • Methods of Fire Extinguishment
  • Classes of fire (A,B,C,D&K)
  • Fire Extinguisher symbols
  • Types of fire extinguisher (Water, Dry Chemical, Carbon Dioxide, Foam)
  • The use of a fire extinguisher (In detail discussion of the PASS system)
  • The use of a hose reel in the applicable classes of fire
  • How to alert the Emergency Services
  • Introduction Building evacuation procedures and reaction
  • Practical demonstration of the correct use of a fire extinguisher
